Thanks for this link, Nadine. It addresses a crucial issue for women today. We stand outside of ourselves and judge our appearance when we dissociate from ourselves, a separation our society does everything to encourage. In the anxiety that this disconnection fosters, we fear what we see. “Women are terrified of their own bodies,” Ina May Gaskin, the world renowned American midwife, observed. We fear the life giving power of what we are, our true power.

Of course, a Yoga practice brings us back into connection with this power; we merge into our bodies and into our lives. Then our image of ourselves comes out of real feeling rather than society’s imaginary concept of what a woman is.

Oh Crescence, perfectly put as always. It’s funny, one of the things I come up against quite often is my fear of my own power. It seems, somehow, more comfortable to stay in fear, because that’s what we know. I will email you soon, my friend.
