Yoga Blog Dropout?

December 3, 2008
by nadinefawell

I haven’t blogged much lately. Actually, my great friend and teacher, Ann, set me an email with the same title as this post. I thought it fitting to borrow her witticism, since it is so suitable! For those of you who are wrinkling your brows in puzzelment, it’s a play on the title of Lucy Edge’s entertaining book.

So, I am officially dropping out of blogging for the rest of the year, as I just can’t fit blogging in to my life right now. Sheesh, I can barely manage a daily shower! Before I go, I want to say thank you to all the lovely people who make the yoga community – both cyber and physical -  so nurturing. All you yoga bloggers and blog readers- thank you! And to the fantastic Melbourne yoga community: I feel like I am in an oasis after a long time in the desert. I had Good People in South Africa, but there weren’t that many of them, and the community was blighted with some unfortunate cattiness, competitiveness and general high-school girl behaviour. If that exists here, I haven’t seen it.

A special thank you has to go to the two studios where I teach: I had hoped to do studio profiles and owner interviews, but both ladies are crazy busy and haven’t been able to do the interview with me. Hopefully next year. So, Emma at Moksha, thank you, and thank you also to Karen, who is a fellow teacher at Moksha and my go-to person whenever I have a transport crisis or the like.

And to Vicki and Martin at The Lotus Healing Centre, thank you for everything too! And to Anna, who also teaches at the Lotus, and whom I look forward to seeing every Wednesday and Thursday evening.  It’s these people, and many others, whose community is so valuable to me!

Lastly, a big thank you to Janice Clarfield, who became an honorary member of the Australian yoga community when she visited to run her pregnancy yoga teacher trainings here. If you get the chance to attend a course with her, do. She debunks all those fear-based myths around yoga and pregnancy that so many of us carry around with us from our previous training!

A picture of the trainees (some, like me, with our fake preggy bellies!)

Me, front left, Janice, third from right, and Vicki and Anna in the back row, wearing a pink tee and striped sweater respectively. And all the other lovelies too!

My final thank you goes to the greatest yoga community of all: the students! Thanks to all of you, for welcoming me to your city, funny accent and all, and for being, always, my greatest teachers.

May you all have a blessed, nourishing holiday period. Until next year!

Nadine

You look lovely with a bump – simply radiant – real or no. And, I’ve missed hearing how you are. I wait patiently for your return in January to hear all of your adventures in your adopted land!
